Pericardium 6 – Inner Gate/Pass

  • On the medial aspect of the forearm, 2 cun proximal to the wrist crease between 2 tendons. (palmaris longus and flexor carpi radialis) The arm needs to be relaxed by the person’s side and well supported. It is uncomfortable if the arm is moved around too much with this needle in place.
  • We use a blue needle and almost always a gentle tonification to a depth of about 0.5 cun
  • Luo point
  • Main point for heart and chest – unbinds chest and regulates Qi
  • Calms the spirit
  • Harmonises the stomach and alleviates nausea and vomiting (used for morning sickness but some sources say it’s forbidden in pregnancy so, with caution)
  • Clears heat
  • Note the connection with the liver which will be clear when we discuss the 6 divisions, smoothe liver Qi, benefits digestion and epigastrium
